HDPE geomembrane (also known as geomembrane), with a thickness of 0.2-3mm; thicknesses above 0.8mm are also called waterproof sheets. It is a waterproof barrier material made from high-quality polyethylene virgin resin. The main component is 97.5% high-density polyethylene, with approximately 2.5% carbon black, anti-aging agents, antioxidants, UV absorbers, stabilizers, and other additives, providing strong seepage prevention and isolation performance.

To address issues such as leakage and aging of anti-leakage materials during landfill construction, it is recommended to apply HDPE geomembranes to the landfill lining system and cover layer. This effectively isolates the landfill from the surrounding environment, minimizing its environmental impact. Anti-leakage materials used as landfill linings must possess three functions: ① Good anti-leakage performance to prevent leakage of leachate. ② Good adsorption or degradation performance to remove suspended or dissolved pollutants. ③ Excellent mechanical properties, weldability, durability, and sealing performance to ensure the material's strength and service life.
Geomembranes used in landfill anti-leakage systems should comply with the relevant provisions of the current national standard CJ/T234-2006 "High-Density Polyethylene Geomembranes for Landfills," and should also meet the following requirements: ① Thickness should not be less than 1.5mm. Landfill regulations require a minimum thickness of 1.5mm for HDPE GM geomembranes, with GM and GCL forming a composite lining. ② Membrane width should not be less than 6.5m. As geomembranes become increasingly wider, there is a growing desire to reduce splicing work and improve construction efficiency. More importantly, fewer seams result in higher reliability in preventing seepage.
During use, numerous factors, such as light intensity and temperature, can directly or indirectly weaken or inhibit the function and effectiveness of antioxidants and light stabilizers. Taking effective protective measures to delay material aging and extend the service life of geosynthetic materials is a crucial aspect of their application in engineering projects.
